In the 14th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1277), Linxi County was established, marking the beginning of administrative governance in Weixi, with the capital located in the present-day Tachen Township. There are two theories regarding the origin of the name “Tachen.” One theory suggests that “Tachen” comes from “Ta,” meaning edge, and “Chen,” a phonetic variation of “Chi” (meaning water), referring to the Lapu River beside the village. The other theory suggests that the name derives from the terrain and landscape, indicating a place at the foot of a tower-shaped mountain resembling a bottle opening.

Tachen Village is a multi-ethnic settlement, primarily inhabited by Tibetan, Naxi, and Lisu people. The village preserves a rich cultural heritage, including traditional Tibetan clothing and Naxi Reba dance. Tachen Township is known as the “Hometown of Reba Art,” and the Reba dance here still retains its original classical charm.
