Mengzi, formerly named Mengzi County, is the capital city of Honghe Yi and Hani Autonomous Prefecture. It is the cradle of Yunnan’s famous dish—the Cross Bridge Rice Noodle, the name of which was derived a folklore taking place in Nanhu Lake. Besides assorted rice noodle snacks, Mengzi is worth exploring because it has the former site of Mengzi Customs House in the Qing Dynasty, and some western style (French) buildings near the Nanhu Lake. A nostalgic tour to the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway’s Bisezhai Station will lead you through the plantations of fruits trees bowed with pomegranates.
