General Yunnan Golf Travel Tips:

  1. Altitude Adjustment: All the golf courses on this tour are at high altitudes. Be prepared for your ball to travel further than at sea level. It’s a good idea to arrive at the course early to get a feel for how your ball is flying on the practice range.
  2. Hydration: At higher altitudes, dehydration can occur quickly. Drink water frequently, even if you don’t feel thirsty, to maintain energy levels and prevent altitude sickness.
  3. Layered Clothing: Temperatures can vary significantly throughout the day, especially in the mountains. Wear layers that you can easily remove or add as needed. A windbreaker and a hat are recommended for early morning or late afternoon rounds.
  4. Sun Protection: The sun’s intensity is stronger at higher altitudes, so apply sunscreen generously, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and consider UV-protective clothing.
  5. Equipment: Bring a rangefinder or GPS device to help with distance control, as your normal yardages will likely be off due to the altitude. Also, pack extra balls, as the courses can be challenging, with natural obstacles like lakes and forests.
  6. Fitness: Walking these courses can be demanding due to the terrain and altitude. If you’re not used to walking 18 holes at high elevation, consider renting a golf cart to conserve energy.
  7. Practice: Spend some time at each course’s practice facility before your round to adjust to the unique playing conditions, especially the speed of the greens and the effects of the thin air on your shots.
  8. Tee Times: Try to book early morning tee times to avoid any potential afternoon rain showers, which are common in mountainous regions, especially during the summer months.
  9. Local Cuisine: After your rounds, enjoy local dishes that are rich in carbohydrates and protein to help replenish your energy. Golfers often appreciate Yunnan’s lighter, flavorful cuisine, which includes dishes like rice noodles and local vegetables.
