- During this time, the annual King Mushroom selection takes place as part of the Wild Mushroom Festival, drawing numerous visitors from around the globe. After a rigorous selection process, ten king mushrooms, including prized varieties like matsutake and reishi, are chosen.
Selection Criteria for the King Mushroom
- The designation of the king mushroom is based on criteria such as freshness, overall condition, and visual appeal. This year, a 715-gram matsutake was crowned the king, despite not being the largest. A mushroom expert remarked, “It’s incredibly fresh and nearly flawless, making it worthy of the title King Mushroom.”
- The winners of the truffle and matsutake categories received a prize of 2,500 yuan ($406), while other successful contestants were awarded 2,000 yuan. This engaging activity is one you won’t want to miss!
Return Journey to Kunming
- After your visit to the market, you will drive back to Kunming.
