What to Wear for a January Yunnan Travel

Warm clothes are necessary, such as a knitted hat, gloves, a thick sweater, a down jacket, or a winter jacket. Also take sunscreen and sunglasses to protect against the sun’s rays in the highlands.

Places to Visit in January Yunnan

  • Yuanyang Rice Terraces
    After the harvest and before the sowing begins. During this time, the harvested terraces will be filled with water. Under the sunshine, the terraces look like shining sapphire gems.
  • Meili Snow Mountain

  • Cui Lake Park

Every year, flocks of black-headed gulls from Siberia spend the winter in the park. You can feed them, and this adds to the fun. You can watch the locals make music, perform, exercise, and paint and rent a boat to go out and enjoy the scenery.
  • The Stone Forest
    (or Shilin, in Mandarin) is a beautiful park composed by limestone formations.
  • Tengchong
    Tengchong in west Yunnan is a great place to seek for warmth. Lots of travelers go to Tengchong to enjoy the hot springs in winter. Apart from staying in a hot spring, you can also visit the Gingko Village in the city. From mid-November to early December is the best time to admire the gingko, when the village will be decorated all yellow. Besides, the Volcanic Geology Park in the city is also a good place to go. Taking a hot air balloon to see the craters from the air is an excellent experience.
