Weideng Town of Weixi County, Diqing

Weideng Township is located in the southwestern corner of Weixi Lisu Autonomous County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is bordered by Bahe Town and Yongchun Township to the east, connects with Zhonglu Township to the north, faces Lanping Bai and Pumi Autonomous County across the river to the south, and is adjacent to Fugong County to the west. The township covers an area of 409 square kilometers.

History

Weideng Township has a long history. During the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Lijiang County. In the Republic of China period, it was under the jurisdiction of Lanping County and was called Weideng Township. In 1950, it was named Weideng District. It was changed to Weideng Commune in 1958, and then reverted to Weideng District in 1962. On December 8, 1965, Weideng Township was transferred from Lanping County to Weixi County and was called the Sixth District. It was renamed Dongfang Commune in 1969, and then changed back to Weideng Commune in 1972. In June 1984, it was changed to Weideng District. In 1988, the district was abolished and Weideng Township was established.

Weideng Township is a multi-ethnic settlement, home to various ethnic groups including Lisu, Bai, Han, Yi, Nu, and others. The township is known for its rich ethnic cultures and traditional customs.
