About Yanshan County and Xiangshuilong Miao Ethnic Village

Yanshan County砚山县 is located in the southeast of Yunnan Province, covering a total area of 3888 square kilometers. The total population is 487,200 (In 2016). Yanshan County got the name because the mountain there looks like a inkstone. There are more than 10 ethnic groups living in Yanshan County, such as Zhuang, Yi, Miao, Hui and Yao.  Ethnic minorities account for about 65% of the total population.

Xiangshuilong Miao Ethnic Village响水龙苗族村, located at Sanhe Village Committee三合村委会 of Panlong Yi Ethnic Town in Yanshan County, Wenshan, is a distinctive ethnic village with Miao and Zhuang minority, as well as strong ethnic culture. In 2012, Yanshan County launched the comprehensive poverty alleviation development and demonstration creation of national unity in the Xiangshuilong ethnic village. And according to the actual situation and ethnic & cultural characteristics, the village was positioned as the construction of Yanshan County National Unity Culture Tourism Park and ecological civilization demonstration village.

Huashan Festival of Miao Ethnic Minority

Huashan Festival花山节, also known as Caihuashan踩花山, is a grand festival for Miao people living in Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Every year on the second day to seventh day of the first lunar month, the Miao compatriots from various villages get together. They are singing, dancing, bullfighting, climbing flower poles, playing spinning top and so on, in order to pray a good weather for the crops and good harvest in the coming year.

Xiangshuilong village响水龙村 of Panlong Yi Ethnic Town in Yanshan County celebrates Huashan Festival every year. Thousands of Miao, Zhuang, Yi, Yao, Han people from various towns and townships, as well as tourists from other places, gather here to celebrate the New Year. In addition to artistic performances and bullfighting competitions, Miao people spontaneously organize various games, such as playing spinning top, playing basketball, climbing flower poles, Lusheng dance芦笙舞. Xiangshuilong Village, combined with the Miao traditional Huashan Festival, local immaterial culture and delicious food, brings us a unique, lively and happy Spring Festival. Huashan Festival is fully demonstrated the excellent Wenshan folk culture, and promote the prosperity and development of ethnic culture.

How to Get There

You have two ways to get to Xiangshuilong Miao Ethnic Viallge of Yanshan County.

1. By Long-distance Bus

Long-distance route is Kunming-Yanshan County-Panlong Yi Ethnic Town, you will transfer two times on the whole journey.

Kunming East Bus Station-Yanshan Bus Terminal

Departure Time: 10:00, 11:30, 14:00, 20:30

Price: 113 CNY

Distance: 308 kilometers

Consume Time: 3.5-4 hours

Yanshan Bus Terminal-Panlong Yi Ethnic Town

There are regular buses from Yanshan to Panlong Ethnic Town. The bus runs every 40 minutes and it spend only 5 CNY. 

2. By Railway

If you want to take train, you should go to Puzhehei first, There are trains from Kunming South Station to Puzhehei Station. The ticket price is about 75 yuan, and you will spend 1 hour and 15 minutes on train. Then another 1.5 hours are needed from Puzhehei to Yanshan County.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Xiangshuilong Miao Ethnic Village is during the Spring Festival(Probably in February). At that time, Miao people there will celebrate their grandest festival, Huashan Festival.
