Yakou Village (垭口村) is under the jurisdiction of Yiwan Shui Village Committee (一碗水村委会), located in Panzhihua Township (攀枝花乡), Yuanyang County (元阳县), Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture (红河哈尼族彝族自治州), Yunnan Province (云南省). Situated in the southern section of the Ailao Mountains (哀牢山), in the northeastern part of Panzhihua Township, the village is 2 km from Yiwan Shui Village Committee and 9 km from the township government. It covers a total area of 1.52 square kilometers, with an elevation of 1,360 meters. The annual average temperature is 19°C, and the average annual rainfall is 1,860 mm.
History and Culture
Yakou Village (垭口村) is a traditional Hani ethnic settlement with a rich and well-preserved cultural landscape. It was listed in the third batch of China’s Traditional Villages in 2014. The village maintains a complete traditional settlement structure and customs, which are of great cultural value. Its landscape layout follows a unique “forest–village–terrace–water system” model, reflecting the integrated relationship between human life and the environment.
Folk Customs
As a traditional Hani ethnic village, Yakou Village (垭口村) is vibrant with cultural heritage. Important Hani festivals such as the “Kuzhazha Festival (矻扎扎节)” and the “Sacred Village Forest Ritual (祭寨神林)” are celebrated with joy and harmony. The village also retains traditional Hani architectural styles, including thatched houses.
