Yixi Gong Mosque (迤西公清真寺) is located at the intersection of Qingyun Street (庆云街) and Nanchang Street (南昌街) in Wuhua District (五华区), Kunming City (昆明市). It was originally built in 1898 and has stood for over a century. As one of the main venues for religious activities of Muslims in urban Kunming, the mosque has played a significant role. It is known as “Yixi Gong Mosque” due to its frequent reception of Hui people from western Yunnan (滇西). It is also one of the key gathering places for the Hui community during major Islamic festivals in Kunming.
Architectural Features
Main Hall
The main building of the mosque is the prayer hall, which is 13.9 meters long and 11.9 meters wide. It is built in a traditional style using an earth-and-wood structure, showcasing typical features of classical Chinese architecture.
Auxiliary Structures
Within the mosque compound, there is a courtyard housing five rooms with six side wings, along with additional facilities such as a bathhouse and kitchen. The total floor area exceeds 160 square meters.
Gate Design
The mosque features two main gates: the front gate opens onto Qingyun Street (庆云街), while the rear gate leads to Nanchang Street (南昌街).
Historical and Cultural Significance
Cultural Heritage Protection
In 1986, Yixi Gong Mosque (迤西公清真寺) was officially designated as a district-level protected cultural heritage site.
