Zhushan Town in Yiliang County, Kunming 

Zhushan Town is located at the southernmost part of Yiliang County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, 55 kilometers away from the county town. It is situated between 103°11′50″ E to 108°1′49″ E and 24°30′36″ N to 24°42′18″ N. To the east, it borders Shilin County; to the south, it connects with Mile County in Honghe Prefecture; to the west, it faces Chengjiang County and Huningcountie in Yuxi area across the Nanpan River; and to the north, it adjoins Goujie Town within the same county. Zhushan Town is strategically located at the node of “three states and five counties,” boasting unique geographical advantages that connect various regions.

Geographic Location

Zhushan Town is situated at the southernmost part of Yiliang County, 55 kilometers away from the county town. Its geographical coordinates are between 103°11′50″ E to 108°1′49″ E and 24°30′36″ N to 24°42′18″ N. To the east lies Shilin County, to the south is Mile County in Honghe Prefecture, to the west across the Nanpan River are Chengjiang County in Yuxi area, and to the north is Goujie Town within Yiliang County.

Historical Background

The historical evolution of Zhushan Town can be traced back to 1957 when it belonged to Lunan County. In 1958, Yiliang County merged with Lunan County, and Zhushan Town became part of Zhushan Commune. In 1963, when Lunan County was separated, Zhushan District was incorporated into Yiliang. In 1970, Zhushan District was renamed Zhushan Commune. In 1983, Zhushan Commune was changed to Zhushan District. In 1987, Zhushan District was reorganized into Zhushan Township. In 2009, Zhushan Township was upgraded to Zhushan Town.

Honors and Rankings

In March 2021, Zhushan Town was selected as one of the 2020 Provincial Hygiene Towns in Yunnan Province. In April 2011, the Ministry of Environmental Protection awarded Zhushan Town the title of National Ecological Township for 2011.

Natural Environment

Zhushan Town features high mountains and deep valleys, steep slopes, and dense forests. The mountain ranges stretch across the northwest, with Changling Ridge extending to the southeast. The Nanpan River and Ba River flow through the canyons, creating significant altitude differences and distinc climate conditions. It is said that “one mountain experiences four seasons, and every five li presents a different sky.” The forest coverage rate in Zhushan Town is 63%, with a total of 342,774 mu of agricultural land, including 25,721 mu of farmland and 181,589 mu of forest land.
