Jinjiang Bai Ethnic Town in Lijiang 

Jinjiang Bai Autonomous Township (金江白族乡) is located in the southeastern part of Gucheng District, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province. It is separated from Yongsheng County by the Jinsha River to the east, borders Heqing County of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture to the south, and is connected to Quhe Town (七河镇) to the northwest. The township government is located 75 kilometers away from the district government. The total area of the township is 89.23 square kilometers, with the maximum east-west distance being 12 kilometers and the maximum north-south distance being 19.2 kilometers.

Climate

Jinjiang Bai Autonomous Township features a typical arid valley climate, with rain and heat occurring in the same season, abundant sunshine, and a long frost-free period. The climate is characterized by dry and windy springs, concentrated rainfall in summer, mild and cool autumns, and humid winters with little snow. The average temperature in January is 6℃, and the average temperature in July is 32℃.

History

In 1949, Jinjiang Commune (金江公社) was established. In 1988, the district was abolished and the township was established, forming Jinjiang Bai Autonomous Township (金江白族乡) under Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County (丽江纳西族自治县). In 2003, after the separation of districts and counties, it became part of Gucheng District, Lijiang City (丽江市古城区). As of June 2020, the township administers five administrative villages: Changu (产构), Jinjiang (金江), Jiangbian (江边), Luoxuan (罗玄), and Puqin (普勤), with the township government located in Changu Dacun (产构大村).

Demographics and Social Development

The township is home to ten ethnic groups, including Bai, Han, Naxi, Miao, Yi, Lisu, Pumi, Wa, Tibetan, and Tujia. It is recognized as an advanced township in the creation of a peaceful society and a model township for ethnic unity at the municipal level in Lijiang City. As of the end of 2019, the registered population was 3,450 people. In 2019, the total economic income reached 57.161 million yuan, and the per capita disposable income of rural permanent residents was 13,849.5 yuan.

Transportation

Jinjiang Bai Autonomous Township has relatively convenient transportation. There are several township roads such as Jinjiang-Changu-Lijiang (金江 — 产构 — 丽江) and Puqin-Sanyi-Lijiang (普勤 — 三义 — 丽江) that connect to Gucheng District and other (county) cities. The external connecting roads to the north to Jin’an Bridge (金安桥), south to Longkai Kou (龙开口), and west to Lijiang Airport have been fully opened. All 34 village groups in the township are accessible by road. Additionally, there are two ferry crossings, Yima Zhen (邑马珍) and Hebei (河北).
