Kuantang Martyrs Monument of The Red Army in Fuyuan County, Qujing
Overview
The Kuantang Martyrs Monument of The Red Army (宽塘红军烈士纪念碑) is a significant site for red tourism, located in Kuantang Village (宽塘村), Yingshang Town (营上镇), Fuyuan County (富源县), Qujing (曲靖), Yunnan Province (云南省).
Historical Background
In April 1935, the Red First Front Army (红一方面军) passed through this area during the Long March (长征). Near Kuantang Village, fierce battles occurred at Xiaoyingkouzi (小营口子) against the Yunnan Army (滇军) led by General An Enpu (安恩溥), resulting in the sacrifice of 41 Red Army soldiers (红军战士). After the battle, local villager Yin Shichang (尹石昌) and others carried the remains of these martyrs to an abandoned mine at Huoshidishan (火石地山) in Kuantang Village for a concentrated burial.
To honor the memory of these heroes, the Fuyuan County government established the monument in July 2007 and renovated the Red Army Martyrs’ graves, reminding future generations to love their country.
