Kunming Dianchi Tourism & Vacation Zone

Kunming Dianchi Lake is among the 12 national tourism resorts in China approved by the State Council in 1992 and the only one located in an inland province. At present, it covers an area of 47.5 square kilometers, including Haigeng District with 22.5 square kilometers and Dayu District with 25 square kilometers, and has a total population of 110,000.

Located in the southwest of Kunming city, Haigeng District is the core area of the Dianchi Lake ecotourism circle. More than 100 tourism programs focusing on sightseeing, vacation and leisure, business meetings, fitness and pleasure have been completed, including a national 4A-level scenic spot, the biggest and most sophisticated conference center in Yunnan province, three museums, two 18-hole golf courses, two professional sports centers, four four-star hotels, 23 football fields, 54 tennis courses, eight natatoriums and four bowling alleys. The Dianchi Lake tourism resort differentiates itself from other national level tourism resorts as it allows tourists to experience the folk customs of 25 minorities, sports training on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and leisure vacation activities for fitness, which have become two brand features of the resort. The area boasts a pleasant environment, fresh air, convenient transportation and desirable living conditions, making it a must-see and first-choice destination for domestic and international tourists to Yunnan.

Located in the southwest of Chenggong District, Dayu District is adjacent to the east coast of Dianchi Lake, with a lake shoreline of 14.7 km, 6 km away from the municipal administrative center. It has built an 18-hole golf course, five main highways, a 110kV transformer substation, a sewage interception project in the main canal along the east coast of Dianchi Lake, a sewage and rain disposal factory in the Laoyu River, and supporting pipe network construction projects. Centering on the tourist industry, the area gives priority to the development of high-end tourism, service and innovative industries and is committed to becoming a comprehensive tourism area at the world-class ecological level.

In 2012, the tourism resort registered an industrial added value of 13.11 billion yuan, 23.5 percent higher than the previous year. The fiscal revenue amounted to 3.79 billion yuan, of which the local public financial budget revenue surpassed 1 billion yuan for the first time. Investment above a designated size on fixed assets stands at 5.62 billion yuan. Revenue in the service industry totaled 33.66 billion yuan, including 1.06 billion yuan from tourism, up 21.2 percent from last year. The number of tourists reached over 10 million for the first time, reaching 10.42 million person-times, which accounts for 22.5 percent of all visitors to Kunming.
