About Shenhecun Mosque

Shenhecun Mosque is located in Shenhecun Village(深河村), Dacang Town(大仓镇), Weishan County(巍山县), Yunnan Province. Shenhecun village is situated at the south shore of Shengouhe River(深沟河),300 meters away from the east side of Dahecang Town. Hence it got the name.

Shenhecun Mosque was built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasty. The mosque was destroyed because of Du Wenxiu failed in the uprising in 1872, the 11th year of Tongzhi(同治十一年). In the early period of the Republic of China, it was only a very humble house in the village for worship.

In 1917, through the multiparty financing, the pilgrimage hall(朝真殿) was built with the construction of the “three -to- five” civil structure(三转五土木结构). In 1946, there built a pavilion-type(攒尖式) manara (宣礼楼)with four quadrangles, which covers an area of 520 square meters.

From 1977 to 1978, people managed to repatch and expand the hall into a five-to-seven civil structure(五转七土木结构). The pilgrimage hall(朝真殿) is a double-roofed Jehiel mountain(重檐歇山式) building, with an area of 806 square meters.

In 1997, a brick structure was rebuilt combined with the three-layer building, including the basement.

In 2002, Shenhecun Mosque was rated as a state model mosque.

The Scale and Construction

Shenghecun Mosque covers an area of about 6000 square meters and the total construction area is more than 2000 square meters. The magnificent and splendid pilgrimage is about 2250 square meters. The main hall integrates the Chinese and western elements with the green main dome in the center, the two small domes on each side. The pilgrimage hall which has the Arab style can hold more than 1,000 people for the worship at the same time.
