Huaxi Town (华溪镇) has a long history. It was established as a township-level administrative region in the 29th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign during the Qing Dynasty (1764). Originally called “Huaxi (华兮),” a transliteration of the Yi word meaning “blossoming vegetation,” the area is traditionally inhabited by the Yi ethnic group and boasts a rich ethnic culture.
