The Zhu Yuan Mosque is located in Zhu Yuan and was established in the sixteenth year of the Qing Guangxu era (1890). It covers an area of approximately 2.5 mu, with the main hall having an architectural area of 400 square meters, designed in the style of Chinese palace architecture.

Scale and Structure

The area covers approximately 2.5 mu, with a total building area of 800 square meters. The main hall has an area of 400 square meters and is built in the style of Chinese palace architecture. The main entrance has a plaque that reads “道自西传” (“The Way is transmitted from the West”), and the couplet reads: “清真根底原清无伴侣无配偶独一无二至高无上” (“The foundation of the true faith is pure, with no companions or pairs, unique and supreme”) and “哲海令耶自祖传圣教受磨砺有始有终正大光明” (“In the sea of philosophy, based on the ancestral holy teachings, the journey is clear and bright from beginning to end”). On the stone pillars at the side, the couplet states: “拜真主道堂里香烟缥缈经声朗朗,赞穆圣寺院内庄严静肃祈求拳拳” (“In the prayer hall for worshiping the True Lord, the incense wafts and the sound of scriptures resonates; in the courtyard of the Prophet’s Mosque, solemn and serene, sincere prayers are offered”). Inside is a rectangular courtyard; the overall architecture employs traditional Chinese architectural art and is divided into two parts: the front and the back. The rear section includes the prayer hall, northern and southern lecture halls, and the entrance tower, while the front section consists of the mosque gate, outer courtyard, screen wall, well house, and bathing room.

Communication and Cooperation

The mosque currently has 5 religious leaders (学董) and 16 imams (阿訇). There are 260 households of worshippers, totaling 1,065 people, who belong to the Algeidi sect (老格迪目) and the Zhehernaye sect (哲赫忍耶). The current head imam is Mr. Lin Songshan, who graduated from the Awen Mosque in Dahuicun in 1947. He has taught for several decades and has cultivated a large number of religious talents for the local community. Every year on the 13th day of the tenth lunar month, the mosque holds a solemn commemorative event in memory of the Muslim brothers from Zhu Yuan who perished during the Qing Tongzhi era. The mosque has affiliated sub-mosques in Banjiao Village, Hongshagou, Wanjiazhuang, and others, known collectively as “Shao Ma” (稍麻). A notable figure who made the pilgrimage from this mosque is a lady named Ma Shifeng, commonly referred to as “Ma Shi Mu.”
