Baoshan Town in Yulong County, Lijiang

Baoshan Township (宝山乡) is located in the northwestern part of Yulong Naxi Autonomous County (玉龙纳西族自治县) and is one of the most remote townships in Yulong County. It is bordered by Fengke Township (奉科乡) to the east, Da Ju Township (大具乡) to the south, Ninglang Yi Autonomous County (宁蒗彝族自治县) to the west, and Yibin County (盐边县), Sichuan Province to the north. The township covers an area of about 400 square kilometers, and the township government is situated approximately 120 kilometers from the county seat of Yulong. Located in a high – altitude cold mountainous area with an average elevation of about 2800 meters, Baoshan Township is a typical mountainous agricultural township.

Natural Environment and Climate

The terrain of Baoshan Township is complex, dominated by high mountains and deep valleys. The climate is typical of a high – altitude cold mountainous area, with long, cold winters and short, cool summers. The average annual temperature is about 12℃, and the annual precipitation is approximately 800 millimeters. The township is rich in vegetation with a high forest coverage rate, and its ecological environment is well – preserved. It serves as one of the important ecological barriers of Yulong Snow Mountain (玉龙雪山).

Administrative Divisions and Population

Baoshan Township comprises several administrative villages, including Baoshan (宝山), Jinjiang (金江), and Baige (白格), among others. The township consists of several villagers’ groups, with a population mainly composed of the Naxi people, as well as ethnic minorities such as the Han and Lisu. As of 2023, the total population of the township is about 5000 people.

Economic Development

The economy of Baoshan Township is primarily based on agriculture, with main crops including corn, wheat, and barley. In recent years, the township has developed characteristic agriculture according to local conditions, such as the cultivation of traditional Chinese medicinal materials and high – mountain vegetables. Additionally, Baoshan Township has been actively developing animal husbandry, mainly raising cattle, sheep, and pigs.
