Fengke Town in Yulong County, Lijiang 

Fengke Township (奉科乡) is located at the northernmost end of the eastern part of Yulong Naxi Autonomous County (玉龙纳西族自治县), 168 kilometers away from the main urban area of Lijiang City (丽江市). It is the most remote township in Yulong County. The township is surrounded by the Jinsha River (金沙江) on its west, north, and east sides, with the Huahuadi Snow Mountain Scenic Area (花花地雪山景区) in the central part. Since ancient times, Fengke has been a strategic point for north-south transportation and an important town on the “Tea Horse Road” (茶马古道).

Economic Development

The economy of Fengke Township is primarily based on agriculture. In recent years, the township has focused on developing industries such as Sichuan pepper, olive, and yellow fruit cultivation, which have gradually turned the once barren mountains of Fengke green. Additionally, Fengke Township has actively integrated into the construction of the Jinsha River Green Economic Corridor, developing the tourism industry and creating the “most beautiful and nearest route to Yading in Daocheng,” promoting rural revitalization.

Social Undertakings

The township committee and government of Fengke have always paid attention to the needs of migrant workers. They have established several organizations, such as the Fengke Town Urban Area Elderly Service Center (奉科镇城区老年服务中心) and the Fengke Town Urban Area Party Branch (奉科镇城区党支部), to provide organizational support for people working outside their hometowns and to solve their concerns. Moreover, Fengke Township has been actively promoting infrastructure construction, such as the water supply pipeline renovation project, to improve the living conditions of residents.

Tourism Development

Fengke Township has unique geographical advantages and rich tourism resources. The 69 – kilometer – long Jinsha River waterway is picturesque and serves as one of the routes to Shangri – La and Lugu Lake. It is also the shortest route from Lijiang to the Naxi Ancient Village of Oya in Sichuan and Yading in Daocheng. In recent years, Fengke Township has actively developed tourism routes and integrated the tourism industry into the construction of the Jinsha River Green Economic Corridor.

From October 12 to 14, 2024, Fengke Township will host the “Jinsha River Genangdu Grand Canyon” Agricultural Culture Festival and the 5th Sichuan Pepper Festival. The event aims to deeply explore the unique features of Fengke, enhance the brand connotation of the Sichuan pepper festival, and inherit and promote traditional ethnic agricultural culture.
