Kunming Changshui International Airport
Serving the capital city of China’s Yunnan Province, Kunming Changshui International Airport (IATA: KMG; ICAO: ZPPP) is located in Changshui village of Guandu District, about 24 km away from the city centre. The airport opened at 08:00 (UTC+8) on June 28, 2012, replacing the old Kunming Wujiaba International Airport, which will be demolished. The new airport has two runways (versus the single runway at Wujiaba), and handled 41,980,339 passengers in 2016, making it one of the 50 busiest airports in the world by passenger traffic, the first time it earned this distinction. In 2020, it is expected to handle 43 million passengers. Kunming Changshui International Airport and Ürümqi Diwopu International Airport are the two national gateway hub airports of China.
Terminal
The main 548,300 m2 (5,902,000 sq ft) terminal of Changshui International Airport is the second largest terminal building in China only next to Terminal 3 of Beijing Capital International Airport. The terminal has 66 gates with jet bridges. Total number of 88 gates are available. Currently, it has one terminal building, Terminal 1. Terminal 2 is expected to be completed before 2020. The building has 3 underground floors, as well as 3 floors above ground. Advanced and complete facilities and services are available in the building for transit, shopping, dinning, accommodation, and entertainment.

The airport currently opens 319 routes, that 275 domestic routes, 38 international routes, 6 regional routes connecting 89 domestic cities, regional cities 3, 26 international cities. By Subway
The first phase of subway line 6 has been put into operation in June 2012. Tourists can take the subway located at the airport and arrive at downtown area. The open hours are 06:20 to 22:20 and it departs every 20-25 minutes at the cost of CNY 15. With a total distance of 18km, the first phase of Kunming subway line 6 is the first rail transit in the city, connecting the downtown area and Changshui International Airport.
The stops of the first phase of subway line 6 includes East Bus Station(东部汽车站), Dabanqiao(大板桥), Airport Front(机场前), Airport Center(机场中心). And the stops for the second phase which is expected to operate by the end of 2019 are Tangzixiang(塘子巷), Tuodong Stadium(拓东体育馆), Juhua(菊华), Juhua General Transport Hub(菊华综合枢纽站).
By Taxi
It’s the most convenient way going to downtown area from the airport. In daytime, the flag-down fare is CNY 8 for the first 3 km and CNY 1.8 per km for the rest of the journey. At night (22:00-06:00 next day), it is CNY 9.6 for the first 3 km and CNY 2.1 per km for the rest. It takes about 50 minutes from Changshui Airport to the city center area at the cost of around CNY 100.
