Liujie Town (六街镇) is located in the northern part of Yimen County (易门县), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It borders Anning City (安宁市) to the east, Tongchang Township (铜厂乡) and Xiaojie Township (小街乡) to the west, Longquan Subdistrict (龙泉街道) to the south, and Lubiao Township (禄裱乡) to the north. The town covers a total area of 221 square kilometers, with terrain sloping from west to east. The highest elevation is 2,487 meters at the rear mountain of Baiyi Liwo (白邑栗窝), and the lowest elevation is 1,638 meters at Baisu Bainitian River (柏树白泥田河面).

History and Culture

Liujie Town (六街镇) has a long history. It began developing a marketplace in 1915, named “Liujie” due to market days falling on the 1st and 6th days of the lunar calendar. Historically, it was part of Lanying District (兰英区) and was incorporated into Yimen County (易门县) in October 1950. After several renamings, it became Liujie Township (六街乡) in 1984 and was upgraded to a town in 2011.

Folk Customs

Liujie Town (六街镇) is the largest Hui ethnic community in Yimen County (易门县), with ethnic minorities such as the Yi (彝族), Hui (回族), Hani (哈尼族), and Miao (苗族) peoples. The Yi people’s Dragon Worship Festival (祭龙节) is a significant traditional event, celebrated on the second day of the second lunar month.
