Mingyin Town in Yulong County, Lijiang 

Mingyin Township (鸣音乡) is located in the northeastern part of Yulong Naxi Autonomous County (玉龙纳西族自治县), Lijiang City (丽江市). It is bordered by Ninglang Yi Autonomous County (宁蒗彝族自治县) to the east across the river, connected to Da Dong Township (大东乡) of Gucheng District (古城区) to the south, adjacent to Da Ju Township (大具乡) to the west, and neighbored by Baoshan Township (宝山乡) to the north. The township covers a total area of 335 square kilometers. It is a vital transit point to Fengke and Baoshan and serves as an important economic exchange corridor for several townships in Ninglang County, including Jinmian and Cuiyi. The township government is situated 73 kilometers away from the county seat of Yulong.

Natural Environment and Climate

Mingyin Township features complex terrain, integrating dry-hot river valleys, semi-mountainous areas, and high-altitude cold mountain regions. The vertical climate is distinct, presenting the characteristic of “one mountain with four seasons, ten miles with different weather.” The highest elevation reaches 3140 meters, while the lowest is 1345 meters. The Jinsha River (金沙江) flows through the township for 60.1 kilometers.

Administrative Divisions and Population

Mingyin Township comprises six village committees (鸣音、落美、海龙、洪门、东联、太和) and a total of 62 villagers’ groups. By the end of 2006, the township had a total of 1904 households and a population of 7845 people, including 4359 Naxi people, 1155 Han people, 1483 Lisu people, and 331 Pumi people, among others.

Economic Development

The economy of Mingyin Township is primarily based on agriculture, with main crops including corn, wheat, and white kidney beans. In recent years, the township has combined poverty alleviation through industry development by guiding residents along the Jinsha River to cultivate olive trees, gradually transforming Hongmen Village into an “olive village.” In 2020, the township’s olive production reached 132 tons, generating a value of 1.07 million yuan.

  • Education: The township has a total of 19 primary schools, including 1 central school, 5 complete primary schools, and 13 village schools, with 10 one-teacher-one-school sites. There are 115 teaching staff members, and both the enrollment rate and retention rate are 100%.
  • Healthcare: The township has 1 health center with 20 beds and 2 medical devices worth over 10,000 yuan. There are 13 health technicians.
  • Transportation: The township has 105 kilometers of rural roads. The oil road connecting the county seat to Mingyin Township was completed in 2006.

Tourism Resources

Mingyin Township is rich in tourism resources, including the Snow Viewing Pavilion (望雪亭), the Swallow Cave at Hailong (海龙燕子洞), and the Donglian Rock Paintings (东联岩画).
