📜 History & Cultural Background

Wuying Village (吴营村) is an important part of Baoxiu Town’s (宝秀镇) traditional settlement pattern known as the “Nine Forts and Twelve Camps” (九冲、十二营盘), reflecting the historical integration of Qing military culture with the Tea Horse Road.

The village name originates from a Ming dynasty military garrison. As a mixed Han-Yi community, it preserves traditional Central Plains farming practices alongside modern Yi ethnic celebrations. Nearby Torch Festival (火把节) activities may influence local festivities. The village maintains active grassroots organizations, with notable performance in the recent “Party Building + Section Chief Responsibility System” evaluation.

🏛️ Administration & Population

The Wuying Village Committee (吴营村民委员会) was established in 1900, with Liu Sencai (刘森财) as the legal representative. It oversees two natural villages—Wuying (吴营) and Xiaochenying (小陈营)—divided into four village groups.

The population is predominantly Han, with labor mainly engaged in agriculture, reflecting strong community cohesion. Infrastructure is well-developed, providing water, electricity, roads, television, and telephone coverage, enhancing residents’ quality of life.

🌄 Tourism & Attractions

Wuying Village (吴营村) is near Xiushan Temple (秀山寺), located on the eastern slope of Xiushan Mountain (秀山东坡) in the southwest of the village. About 12 kilometers from the county center, this provincial-level protected site combines religious art with natural scenery and is popular for hiking and photography.

The surrounding Chiru Lake Wetland (赤瑞湖湿地) offers eco-friendly leisure activities such as cycling, birdwatching, and boating during summer.

🏞️ Economy & Ecology

The local economy is primarily agricultural, focusing on rice, bayberries, and citrus cultivation. This supports a sustainable “crop + livestock” farming model integrated with the Chiru Lake (赤瑞湖) ecosystem. Future development plans emphasize bean product processing and tourism-agriculture synergy to increase farmers’ income.
