How to Get to Yubeng Village from Kunming

Yubeng Village is known for the beautiful valley it lies in and beautiful day treks which depart from it. Under the extraordinary craftsman by nature, it is called the miniature version of the real Shangri-La. One can only get there by trekking or mule-riding for 18 kilometers, and crossing over a pass of 3700 m. It’s about 850 kilometers away from the provincial capital Kunming.

How to Get to Yubeng Village from Kunming?

By Air

If you want to save time, you can take the flight from Kunming to Shangrila and then transfer to Yubeng village. There are four buses departing from Shangri-la Bus Station(香格里拉汽车客运站) to Deqin at 08:20, 09:20, 10:30, 12:00 every day. After Deqin arrival, take another 1.5 hours’ ride or rent a minivan to Xidang Village. There are only two buses departing at 07:00 and 15:00.

Around 5.4 km from the city center, Diqing Airport is the largest airport in the east Tibetan area. Direct flights to/from several domestic cities are available, including Kunming, Chengdu, Lhasa, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Beijing and Shanghai. As it is close to the downtown area, tourists usually take a taxi to the airport.

By Coach

Take the only long-distance bus that departs at 19:00 every day from Kunming West Bus Station(昆明西部客运站) to Deqin Bus Station(德钦客运站). The journey takes around 24 hours and the fare is CNY 284. After arriving in Deqin County, you can take a bus to the Xidang Village that leaves at 07:00 and 15:00 every day or rent a local car.

By Train

At present, there is no railway connecting Deqin with Kunming. The Yunnan-Tibet Railway under planning stretches to Lhasa in Tibet from Kunming in Yunnan Province. After the completion of Yunnan-Tibet Railway, it’s more convenient for tourists traveling from Kunming to Deqin County.
